Hi, second graders! I hope your school year is going well and you’re enjoying the new year! I’d like to start out by telling you all a little bit about myself and how I got to be a brown bear researcher in Slovenia. While I’ve always liked science growing up, I had absolutely no idea this is where I would be when I was your age. Life is unpredictable, but it’s exciting to follow your dreams wherever they might lead you.

I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota way back in 1997, so I’m a little older than all of you, but I do still remember a little bit of what it was like being a second grader! While growing up, my two favorite subjects in school were history and science. Outside of school I loved to play outside, riding my bike, going on hikes, playing sports with my friends and doing whatever could get me out of the house. I played a little bit of every sport, but my favorites were football and soccer, and I continued playing both of those through high school.

When I was getting towards the end of high school and started looking at colleges, I didn’t really know where I wanted to go, but I knew that I wanted to get out of Minnesota. Don’t get me wrong, I love where I grew up, but I had a strong desire to see more of the world and experience new things.
