British Traditions

Introduction:

British traditions vary from the weird to the wonderful. They gives importance and meaning to the people’s day to day lives and bind people to each other in a society. There are many interesting and fun traditions that people still continue to practice in this country. Knowing and understanding a country’s traditions allows us to have a deeper understanding as to why people live such lives, say certain things or do certain actions. After you learn more about their traditions in this field note, you will realize that there is more to the United Kingdom than plaid kilts, The Beatles and fish and chips!

What tradition did I learn about?:

One thing that I found out since my arrival here is that the British have a real pub culture. The term pub is short for “public house.” A British pub is a place in the neighborhood where people get together and have some drinks and chat after a busy day. It is very common that people would ask co-workers to go out to the pub to relax after work.In the U.S.A. Americans normally go toa bar for a drink when they want to hang out or have a reunion with their friends or watch some sports together. Typically, they won’t just go to the bar after work, because they will be exhausted after work and they will just want to go home and rest. One major difference between U.S. bar culture and British pub culture is that they normally don’t have table service in the pub.
