Hi, everyone!
My name is Yina Torres, and I am a Mexican-Dominican native New Yorker who lives in Queens. I am 21 years old and in my last year of college studying Finance and Sociology at Baruch College. I love spending time with my siblings watching Tik Tok videos. I have a younger brother who is 15 and a little sister who is ten. And although we may be far apart in age, we have an inseparable bond. A fun fact about me is that I’ve lived in four different countries! When I was three years old, I lived in the Dominican Republic for about two years, and I even started elementary school over there. I was young when I lived there, so I don’t remember much, but I do have pictures!
When I was eight years old, I lived in Mexico for a little under a year on a farm with my grandparents. I helped them grow walnuts, corn, and cherries. My best memory in Mexico was going to a huge market called a tianguis with my grandma and my cousin and seeing her bartering to get meat! This was an eye-opening experience because I came from a metropolis where we only used cash, so this experience showed me at a young age how differently people live in different parts of the world. Take a look at the photo I'm sharing with you of my brother and me on Mexican Independence Day, which falls on September 16th. Mexican traditions are important to my family!
