In many ways, the city of Chengdu became my home away from home. In perhaps the most tumultuous time period of my life, I was able to find not only a sense of home in Chengdu, but also a community of students, teachers, faculty and neighbors that supported me in every step of my study abroad process. Not only did I come out while in China, but I came to realize a lot about myself, including who I aspire to be, where I hope to go, and what my career path might look like.
In January of 2020, the coronavirus pandemic started in Wuhan, cutting my time short in China by almost the entire semester. While my study abroad friends and I were able to make it back home safely, it did complicate a lot of plans that I had for my academic and personal life. However, I do cherish every memory and every friend that I made while being there. From "The Community" to the SMUN International Students Club, I would not have asked for a different experience in Chengdu. The people were welcoming, accepting, and some of the nicest people I have ever met. I fell in love with the Chinese language, culture, food and traditions even more after my time in China itself.
I can't explain how grateful I am to everyone who has joined me on this amazing journey exploring a country, culture and language so beautiful, unique and full of life lessons.
