Communities!

Introduction:

During my time abroad in Amman, Jordan, I learned an incredible amount about the different communities in the country and the needs that each community has. Oftentimes, things may seem very simple to us because we live in the United States where resources such as running water and electricity are more accessible. However, resources like running water, heat, electricity, and the internet are not as accessible to some people living in Jordan. I learned a lot about this during my semester in Amman and will share a little bit about that with you all in this field note!~

What community need did I learn about?:

I learned about the community need for clean water. Growing up, I always had the privilege of drinking tap water because it was always filtered and clean. However, this is not the case for people living in Jordan. The tap water is not clean and is usually full of germs that can make a person very sick! As a result, people living in Jordan usually buy bottled water to avoid getting sick from the tap water.

Why does the community have this need?:

The community has this need for clean water because the tap water is unfiltered, making it undrinkable. It is unfiltered because the country does not have the money or the resources to build an infrastructure that could possibly support the provision of clean water to millions of people.
