Hi everyone, I’m Charlotte and I’ve been an engineer with Ocean Infinity for six months. It’s great fun! I’m 25 years old and this is my first real job after studying mechanical engineering at university in London. I moved from the busy capital city of London to the coastal city of Southampton to be near where we build our ships. One of the great things about working for a marine company is living by the sea, so I make the most of it with rock climbing on the sea cliffs and sea swimming. The water is pretty cold in winter!
I love my job. Being an engineer is like being paid to build jigsaw puzzles. Sometimes you’re missing a piece and need to make your own, or sometimes you need to make a set of instructions for someone to build it after you.
I am helping to design our fleet of uncrewed robotic ships. I spend some of my time in our workshop testing and getting equipment ready to use on the ships. The rest of the time I spend on my computer drawing electrical wire diagrams or working with the complicated 3D model we have for each of the ships.
