Real Madrid or Barcelona? Ronaldo or Messi? Valid burning questions that are highly debatable globally. It is no secret that Barcelona and Real Madrid are two of the best and most successful football (the same as soccer in the U.S.) teams in all of Europe. Football in Spain is important culturally and drives millions of football fans into the streets yearly around the country.
I visited Camp Nou which is located in Plaça de Espanya in Barcelona, Spain. Although I visited the stadium on a non-game day, it was a very special experience filled with so much history and pride. Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona's home field since it officially opened in 1957. Interestingly enough, the stadium was originally going to be named "Estadi del FC Barcelona," which is Catalan for "the stadium of FC Barcelona." However, it came to be recognized as "Camp Nou" which translates in English as the "new ground" when citizens of Barcelona were asked to vote on the new name. Currently, the stadium holds a capacity of over 99,000 spectators making it the biggest stadium in Europe and the second-largest football arena in the world.
During my visit, the tour highlighted that the arena has recently earned sponsorship from Spotify since March 2022.
