Barcelona is a vibrant city on Spain's northeastern Mediterranean coast. The city is a cultural and economic center, but it also faces some environmental challenges from factors such as climate change and tourism.
One thing that is notable about Barcelona is its Mediterranean climate. Mediterranean areas are known for having milder winters, and I would say that current winter temperatures are around 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Barcelona boasts both beaches and inland mountains . An interesting fact is that the beaches are actually artificial, as sand was imported from Egypt to create beaches before the 1992 Olympics.
Barcelona has good public transportation infrastructure. There is an extensive network consisting primarily of buses and the metro, which can get you to most places in the city. People can also rent bikes easily, and the city is peppered with bike and motorcycle racks. While cars are still common, I see many people using bikes, motorcycles, buses and the metro to get around.
Barcelona has a unique urban plan designed by city planner Ildefons Cerdà. If you look at the city from above, you will see that much of it is organized into little rounded cubes.
