Nishimenye kukumenya! (Nice to meet you!) My name is Nicole, and I’m currently teaching English at a high school in Kigali, Rwanda. I'm excited to share this experience with you! I am originally from a small town in Maine. I went to Macalester College in Minnesota, where I studied international relations and human rights. After graduating in 2020, I was a program manager for three years at a small Tanzanian organization focused on ending child marriage and increasing girls’ access to education.

The first time I came to Africa, I was two years old. My parents had been Peace Corps Volunteers, and they were returning to Senegal in West Africa, the country where they met, to introduce me to all their friends. When I was 16, my family and I returned to Africa--this time, on the eastern coast of Tanzania. It was a big culture shock going from Farmington, Maine, to Moshi, Tanzania, but the seven months I spent there were some of the best of my childhood. I caught the travel bug young, thanks to my parents. While working in Tanzania, I got to visit Rwanda for a week and fell in love with the country--its beautiful hills, vibrant city and kind people. So, I decided to become an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) here with the U.S. Fulbright Program.
