After a semester of learning, our time together has come to an end. Ms. McCarthy’s class, it has been so much fun sharing my journey with you... but it’s not over yet! As of today, I have been in Korea for three months, and I still have eight more to go. Before I go, do you remember why I decided to come to South Korea? When I was your age, I read a lot of books. For the first time, I imagined what life was like for people outside of Kentucky and, sometimes, outside of the United States. Eventually, those books led me here, to 청주시 (Cheongju-si), South Korea. While I didn’t know it when I first arrived, one of the most wonderful things about 청주시 (Cheongju-si) is its literary history. In the United States, we often learn that Johannes Gutenberg printed the first book, which was made with movable metal type in Germany in 1453. This may be true for European history, but in Asia, people were printing books much earlier.
