Czech Out This Food!

Introduction:

Have you ever tried Czech food before? I’d bet most of you haven’t — and that’s a real shame! Czech food is super tasty, filling and full of flavor. For some reason, it hasn’t become very popular outside of the Czech Republic, even though it deserves to be. Much like the United States, the Czech Republic is a mix of different cultures and traditions. Some classic Czech meals, like schnitzel, show German influence, while goulash comes from the country’s Central and Eastern European neighbors. Eating habits in the Czech Republic look a lot different than those in the United States. One of the biggest differences is the fact that Czechs eat their largest meal for lunch! In the U.S., it is common to start a meal with a salad or some vegetables, but the Czechs almost always start their meals with a soup! Even if it's a blistering hot day out, the Czechs will almost always have a soup with lunch.

What food did I try?:

The first dish I tried in the Czech Republic was goulash, and honestly, it was the perfect way to start my food adventure here. Goulash is a warm, comforting meal made with beef, onions, potatoes and a lot of paprika. It’s kind of like a thick soup, somewhere between a stew and mashed potatoes. The best part, though, is what comes with it: dumplings.
