Sydney has numerous interesting things to do, so much so that I often have a hard time not finding something to spend time doing or seeing. One of my favorite things to do whenever I travel to a city, even in the United States, is visiting popular museums to learn more about the city or country. Throughout the past weekend, I spent most of my time doing this and had the opportunity to visit the White Rabbit Art Gallery and the Australian Museum.
The first place I visited was the White Rabbit Art Gallery, a gallery in Chippendale which showcases Chinese contemporary art. One of my favorite pieces in the gallery was “The Marshes” by Fang Daqi, a large collage of photos made to look like a marsh field taped onto a wall with a small fan placed in front of it. As the fan moved from side to side, the air blown by the fan flipped the photos up and down to look like the reeds in the photos are moving. The collage was made to look like the countryside and rural areas that are not often found in major cities like Sydney. As someone from an extremely large city, I found myself getting lost in the calm feeling of nature that is not found unless I drive hours away.
