Throughout the first few months in Cardiff, I sought out different hikes and adventures by train that would allow me to explore medieval locations in the UK. One of the most popular places in Wales is St. Fagan's Living History Museum. Different homes, buildings, and churches from all over Wales were carefully moved to the countryside right outside of Cardiff to create a pretend medieval village. Fixed with actual orchards and grazing sheep, the museum gives you a glimpse into what life was like during medieval times. I have since visited lots of other medieval locations, like the Gloucester Abbey, the Glastonbury Tower, Lacock Abbey, and Caerphilly Castle. Not only are some of these places to home to famous Harry Potter scenes, but some are also steeped in the history of Arthurian legends. Glastonbury is supposed to be a famous landmark for Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a gripping tale about an immortal knight with green skin and clothes who challenges Arthur to a deadly dual. You can hike all the way up to the tower on the hill and imagine what it must have been like to be one of Arthur's knights chasing a mysterious green figure! Britain is full of history and especially rich in medieval history. Almost any village you visit will have a stark combination of the old and the new!
