St. Patrick's Day in Ireland

Introduction:

Today, I will tell you guys about a recent tradition that I took part in during my study abroad in Ireland: St. Patrick's Day!

What tradition did I learn about?:

The biggest tradition every year in Ireland is by far St. Patrick's Day, which occurs every year on March 17th. This is a day when everyone in Ireland comes together as a community to celebrate Irish culture. Celebrations usually involve parades through twins featuring the flag of Ireland -- which is green, white and orange -- symbols of shamrocks and green everywhere. People typically consume lots of yummy food and drinks, and dance with loved ones all day long.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

This day was named after St. Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint. The celebrations originated with a big feast among the people, but has grown to be a day full of parades, music and celebration in the streets of Ireland. It has truly become a cultural event to celebrate Irish heritage and history. The tradition has now spread globally and even countries, including the U.S., celebrate by wearing green on March 17th.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

This tradition unites people all across Ireland with days of celebration and joy. Everywhere I went, I saw smiles on people's faces, and friends and families laughing together.
