Trying Bandeja Paisa

Introduction:

¡Hola a todos y todas! (Hello everyone!). This week I tried one of the most well-known Colombian dishes, the bandeja paisa. This traditional dish offers so many different kinds of food, so you can have a little bit of everything!

What food did I try?:

I tried a bandeja paisa (paisa platter), a dish that includes everything you could possibly crave. Traditional bandejas paisas include red beans, white rice, ground beef, chicharrón (fried pork belly), chorizo (pork sausage), fried egg, plátano maduro (fried plantains), avocado and an arepa. Arepas are a super important Colombian food, and most Colombians have one daily. They are small, flat round corn cakes and are often prepared with cheese and a protein like eggs, beef or chicken. My arepa was plain, but I had so much food that it was impossible to leave hungry. To drink I had limonada hierbabuena (lemonade with spearmint), and it was very refreshing.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

The bandeja paisa was very yummy! The food is prepared very well and tastes incredible. My favorite part was the red beans because I eat a lot of red beans back home in Louisiana. So, this meal reminded me of home!
