Taiwan Night Markets: The Place to Try a Little Bit (or a Lot) of Everything!

Introduction:

Taiwan might be small, but it is definitely big when it comes to food! Also, fun fact, food from Taiwan is called “Taiwanese food,” not “Thai food.” Sometimes it confuses people, but “Thai food” is what we call the food from Thailand. If you go to a big city center like Taipei Main Station, you can find all sorts of restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, cafes, convenience stores and street stands selling everything from Thai, Japanese and American food to, of course, lots of Taiwanese food. Many of these places are super affordable too, so I've only cooked one time in my entire three months that I have lived here, and I have yet to break the bank! I especially have been a frequent visitor of the 7-Eleven convenience store on the first floor of my apartment building. These convenience stores truly live up to their name, and no matter how late I get home, there is always a nice rice ball for less than $2 waiting in the nice cold fridge.

What food did I try?:

When I have a free evening, one of my favorite places to go to for food here is the Shilin Night Market. There are many other well-known night markets in the area as well, but I am biased towards Shilin because I used to live right in the center of it during my first month living here in August.
