Journey to the Cloud Forest

He’s made it through Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Panama so far, and is waiting for the government of Costa Rica to give him a visa so he can continue running through Central America. Mulget is also a painter and he paints murals along his journey to say “thanks” when kind strangers or new friends help him with food, water or shelter.

We had a long conversation about his dream of a world without conflict, symbolized by the lion and lamb on the front of the carrito, or cart, which carries all of his camping supplies and gear. The poster says, “Without peace, nothing makes sense.” The lion, which reminds him of his home in Ethiopia, symbolizes strength, whereas the lamb symbolizes humility. Mulget has spoken to hundreds of students throughout his journey so far to share his message that striving for peace starts even when you’re young, with the way you treat your classmates. What a fitting message for our time in La Amistad, Friendship Park!
