Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

In the Czech Republic, most people speak Czech. However, there is a large Vietnamese population that speaks Vietnamese. Also, many people know at least basic English.

In my neighborhood, there are a lot of people who have lived in the Czech Republic for their entire lives and don't really speak English. That makes it a fun challenge when I go to the grocery store because I get to practice my Czech.

What type of money is used here?:

The Czech Republic uses the Czech koruna (crown). The smallest bill is the 100 crown note, which is worth about $5. The country also has 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 crown bills. In coins, you can get 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 crowns.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

In the grocery store, a bottle of water typically costs around 15 crowns, or 65 cents. Yet, something that's different in Europe is that restaurants in many countries charge for water, which is more expensive than at the store.

The water in Prague is super clean and safe to drink, so I just fill up my own reusable water bottle I brought from home.

What was the best meal this week?:

I cook to save money, so I don’t really go out to eat full meals, but I did have really good banana bread at a cafe.
