The participants groovily acted out getting showered and dressed, doing laundry, or throwing stones at hanging mangos and coconuts.
Every day I like to read the news! Even though I am miles and miles away from the States, I try to stay up to date with the latest political drama through newsletters, articles, and podcasts. At night and on the bus, I like to read on my Kindle. Right now, I’m reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
This week, for PE class, I taught American football. Some of the students were familiar with the sport, but it’s not what they call football; I had to be very intentional about calling it “American football” and not just football. Plus, I coached some track and field: this week, we focused on throwing a javelin. We used a big stick for practice. And for myself, I played beach volleyball for two evenings with some friends.
I had a meeting with a former Peace Corps volunteer here in Belize. She is the director of a nonprofit which my school and I successfully applied for a grant from. In other words, they are giving my school some money for my work! It’s amazing how she was a volunteer so long ago and remains connected to the country in service. Being a Peace Corps volunteer can introduce you to communities that may remain a part of you forever!
