A Lizard Came to Class

They “freeze” under 75 degrees, which means that if they are hanging out up in the trees on a cold day, 'guanas can just fall out of trees like it is raining iguanas!

How does it use its environment to survive?:

This creature evolves through a few colors during its lifetime, so it is able to blend in with multiple environments present in Belize. When it is green, it can blend in with the jungle of trees and grass. When it is the orange dusty color, as I saw it, it can camouflage with the rocky riverbanks and sand. It lives off the natural vegetation of its environment; it typically feeds on fruits, leaves, berries, and flowers, which make the jungles a great habitat.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Another name for a Belizean Iguana is a Bamboo Chicken. That’s because it is hunted and eaten in some areas. It tastes just like chicken, allegedly. People fry it or make a stew out of it. I have yet to try it, but I would if I got the chance. Plus, just like chickens, ‘guanas lay eggs which can be fried up and served. However, a hunting license is required to hunt ‘guanas; they are a protected species in Belize because of how important they are to the balance of the environment. I was not too worried about this one, Ramos, at the school. I was worried for the students unnerving it, but eventually, the students threw some rocks and chased it away.
