Wild dogs are active during the day and sleep at night like humans, but the other big predators on the savannah are nocturnal hunters, meaning they are more active at night. On the night safari, I saw lions and hyenas on the move. I was surprised by how cute hyenas are. I often read about how hyenas are fearsome hunters and scavengers who will fight with lions over a meal, but the hyena cubs were adorable as they played with each other like puppies.
As an archaeologist who studies animal fossils, it is always very exciting to see living animals in the wild. Safaris not only help me learn firsthand about how animals interact with their environment, but they also provide a great opportunity to take pictures to share with my friends, family and you!
