One thing I have realized while living in the United Kingdom is that the way I get around changes completely depending on where I am. I have always loved walking, even back home in New York City, because it keeps me active and lets me notice what is around me. Cambridge is perfect for that because I can reach most of the places I go on foot. London is a different story. A single day there might include a coach, the Tube, a red double-decker bus, and thousands of steps before I finally get back to Cambridge.
In Cambridge, I constantly see people walking, biking, and taking buses. My friends use the local buses pretty often, but I have actually never taken one because I almost always choose to walk. The biking culture surprised me the most. There are bikes everywhere, and I regularly see groups of students riding through the city. I am used to seeing cyclists in Manhattan, but biking feels even more common here.
I have only biked around Cambridge once, when my brother visited, because doing it alone honestly makes me nervous! In London, I rely much more on public transportation because everything is farther apart.
