The second mission of initiatives, restoring profitability, is a hint at the critical situation for barnacles on the northwest coast of Galicia. Barnacles have been exploited to the point that the profit gained from the animal has decreased. The demand for goose barnacles has increased due to tourism. Near the coast of Vigo, many restaurants have barnacles on their menu, and I contributed to this demand for barnacles when I dined at one of those restaurants. Since barnacles have an important role in the ecosystem, if they were removed from the equation, the effects would be noticeable.
