History and Monuments in Argentina

This day is now a holiday celebrated in Argentina, and San Martin is honored in many ways through street names, monuments, etc. In this era, there were also many civil wars fought, and the development of the country formed politically.

From 1880 on, it is considered the history of modern Argentina. This era was one heavy with European immigration. Many people fled Europe to Argentina to seek a better lifestyle and to escape conflicts in Europe. This included immigrants from a variety of European countries, but mostly from Spain and Italy. Because of this immigration, Argentina's population increased in this era, and many political movements from source countries were introduced.

In the following years, there were a lot of political rises and falls due to different presidents and governmental changes. A notable part of the modern history of Argentina has been its economic changes. Argentina, once flourishing, hit an economic depression in 1998. The start of the economic decline caused problems like changing of the currency, the Argentine peso, and affected many Argentine companies. However, in about the past ten years, the economic state of Argentina has been improving slowly. Economics is still one major political concern of the country today.

A few other current, political concerns include indigenous people's rights, women's rights, freedom of expression and prison/police conditions.
