I am currently on book five of the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. It is a high fantasy series that is definitely a commitment, as these five books total almost 6500 pages! My non fiction book is The Lighteaters by Zoe Schlanger. It explores plant intelligence and how plants display communication, memory, and social behaviors. It is nice to read for fun again after the heavy studying of medical school and my PhD.
Because of the rain, it is hit or miss whether volleyball games happen at a local spot called The Shack. They have two courts for leagues and pickup games. Back in the US, I play volleyball all year long, including indoor games at the recreation center with my husband, and beach volleyball along Lake Michigan. When we aren't playing sports, the interns and fellows get together for cards or games like Bananagrams and Dutch Blitz.
My research study is reaching its final approval stages, meaning I can start data collection in the coming weeks. This involves jumping through many regulatory hoops designed to ensure research is done in a safe and ethical manner to protect patients. I also finally met the research nurse I will be hiring for the study to ensure we are on the same page!
