You can learn lessons from each character you recreate. Most of all, the arts bring people together. I’ve continued dancing, singing and acting well into my college years, and the arts will always hold a big place in my heart.
I am also an outdoorsy person, and I love hiking, camping and backpacking. I’m trying to learn how to climb/ boulder here in India. I’ve made some of my best friends on backpacking trips through the Grand Canyon and all over California. In terms of hobbies, I also love practicing yoga, and meditation, and I especially love to read! Some of my favorite things in the world include farmers' markets, having coffee on a porch, picnics in the sunshine, swing dancing, swimming in the ocean, watercoloring and waking up in a tent.
My first true global experience was my second year of high school when I traveled to Nicaragua on a MetoWe construction project in a local community near Leon. This experience sparked my interest in exploring different cultures and learning deeply from these experiences.
In university, my most influential experiences have been those of travel and immersion in different cultures. I spent a summer in Bolivia researching Bolivian attitudes towards green spaces and their sustainable behaviors. I spent almost every day out in the field, navigating the nooks and crannies of the Spanish language. I discovered that interacting with others brings me such a sense of energy and joy.
I kayaked the bright blue seas of the Baja Mexico and studied natural history and marine species along the way. I took nature-art classes with youth in Puebla, Mexico. I danced my way through Denmark and Europe as I studied livable cities and sustainable development.
