Another way to integrate into the local community is by participating in local customs and traditions, such as eating local food and celebrating holidays or festivals with locals. I’ve gotten the chance to celebrate some Indian holidays in the past few weeks. I went up to the northern part of the country to Ahmedabad and participated in Garba, which is a type of Indian folk dance. I dressed in traditional Indian clothing and danced all through the night! I also got to see a parade for the festival of Dassara in a town called Mysore, which has a beautiful palace. Taking part in these festivals has been exciting and so colorful.
So, as time goes on, I continue to ask questions and try to keep a curious mindset and a smile on my face. In this way, I am feeling more at home here in India and a part of the larger community.
