¿Qué lo que? My name is Sarah Gentile, and I am living in the Dominican Republic! It is a beautiful island filled with bananas, beaches, and a lot of sun. I am from Idaho, where I live in the cold, high up in the mountains with plenty of snow. Living in the Dominican Republic is very different from my hometown in the United States. I am living abroad because I love to travel and help others.
I am a Peace Corps Volunteer. As a Peace Corps volunteer, I teach English, dance, exercise, and music classes! Dancing, exercising, teaching, and playing the piano are just a few of my hobbies, so my life here is very enjoyable. I get to do what I love, and I live in such a gorgeous place! On the weekends, I go to the beach, I dance bachata (a Dominican dance style), and I eat coconuts. I am going to live in the Dominican Republic for two years! Some days are difficult because I miss my home and my family. I have three brothers, a sister, two cats, and a dog. Coming from such a big family, sometimes I can feel lonely here all by myself, but then I remember that I am creating a new life here in the Caribbean.
Every day I learn new things. I am learning more Spanish, creating new friendships, trying new foods, and practicing new dance styles. It is such a reward to have the opportunity to travel and learn. I can’t wait to share more of my life in the Dominican Republic with you!
