Have you heard the phrase, "When it rains, it floods"? Well, no truer words can describe the amount of water that used to flood these lower-lying areas. In fact, the water once rose 12 meters or roughly 39 feet!
Levees! In order to help redirect the water, the city built a series of levees (man-made hills) near the Han river to help catch the water. They also began to build houses in the mountains, covering the summits with appartments. So, as you can see, there have been a number of challenges for the Korean people who live in such a dramatic landscape!
