The official language of the Czech Republic is Czech, it is the main language. In the city capital of Prague, most people also speak English which makes it easy for me to get around, but outside of the city that is not the case. Slovak, German, Polish, Russian, and Vietnamese are also commonly spoken languages in Czechia.
The Czech Republic has had its own type of currency since 1993 called the Czech koruna, or Czech crown (CZK). 1 Czech koruna = 0.048 U.S. dollars, so if I spend 100 CZK on a coffee, that is about $4.78 USD.
In the Czech Republic, like in the rest of Europe, water is never free. At restaurants, if you ask your waiter for water, that could cost you 120 CZK (about $5.77 USD)!
After I was done hiking in Bohemia Swizterland, while waiting for my bus I stopped in the mountain village of Hrensko. There, I enjoyed a warm bowl of Cesnecka (traditonal Czech garlic soup) with cream, potatos, and lots of black pepper. They also gave me a complimentary glass of mountain tea, perfect for a cold day!
