I have a car, but I only use it to travel outside of the city or late at night. Sometimes I use my car on the weekends when there are not as many buses around. Often, I take the metro to the university because it is easy to walk there from my home, and the metro is fast, even when traffic is bad.
I wear a nice shirt and pants to work often. Sometimes I wear dresses or skirts for parties or celebrations, but not usually to work. I am fortunate to work at a university that is not so strict with the dress requirements for professors, even for women.
I do not have much free time during the week. On weekends, I like to hike and ride my bike with my friends. There are many places to go hiking and walking in Santiago and near the city, because of the mountains.
My family all meet at my mother's house many Sundays for lunch or dinner and to talk. Sometimes we all go out together. I am very fortunate that my mother and my sister live close to me.
I speak Chilean Spanish. I also had to learn English in school and at my university because it is a requirement to be a professional in many fields. I now speak and understand some English, and I can read articles and news in English for my job, but I prefer to speak Spanish.
