A Foodie in the South Pacific

It's traditionally served in a coconut husk, which I can't wait to try in that authentic form.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Fiji is a country comprised of 300+ islands, with 110 inhabited by less than a million people. I'm currently in the capital city of Suva, which is coastal and on the largest and main island, called Viti Levu. Kokoda as a fish-based dish is reflective of the environment, as many communities here are close to the sea given the geographic realities of the country. Fiji is also lush and verdant. There is a wide array of fruits and vegetables that grow here, too. Many of them either appear in kokoda or are paired with it as a complement, such as cassava fries.
