As I'm sure Ms. Lyons has told you, she and I are great friends. We worked on a huge fundraising project called HuskyTHON when we were in college together, and even though we live pretty far from each other now, we've been able to stay in touch and collaborate on projects like this!
One of the ways we stay up-to-date on each others' lives is something I call "Rose Bud Thorn". Each week, we tell each other one great thing that happened (the rose), one thing we're looking forward to (the bud), and one thing that maybe wasn't so great (the thorn). So, I thought - what better way to give you all a look into my past year and a half in the Dominican Republic than by doing a Rose Bud Thorn!
Rose (What’s been great?)
The past eighteen months have given me many roses, too many to name, so I have picked a few of the biggest ones to share.
First and foremost, the people are a rose of mine. When I first left the United States, I wasn’t sure when or if I would be able to return to see my family and friends, so it was important to me to find friends and “family” here. In general, Dominicans are some of the kindest, most generous, outgoing people I’ve ever met.
