Home Sweet Home

I have a very comfy bed and I decorated the walls with pictures and letters from friends and family, which is the best sight to wake up and fall asleep to. In the two bedrooms I lived in before this house, I used a mosquito net over my bed to avoid getting bitten at night. Lucky for me, the mosquitoes aren't nearly as bad here as they are in other areas, so I can go without it. The sea breeze helps keep them at bay and also keeps me cool at night. I do have two fans which help as well, but electricity goes out at least a few times a week - sometimes for hours on end - so it's nice to have the cool ocean breeze.

The other two "bedrooms" I use as a guest room and a storage/closet area. The guest room has a twin bed that my dad, coworkers, fellow volunteers, and friends have all stayed in when they've come to visit me, and the wall is covered with drawings from the kids. The "closet" has a shoe storage contraption I made out of cement blocks, and the walls are lined with bags and suitcases that, believe it or not, I'm still living out of!

I have a small patio area out back where I wash my laundry in a "lavadora," which is a half manual half automatic machine that makes the process go by quicker than if I had to handwash completely. It also has a chinola (passion fruit) tree, and there are always chickens wandering around back there! Sometimes they even let themselves into my house!

I genuinely love my home, and I take great pride in it. I enjoy hosting visitors or FaceTiming friends and family to show off all its nuances. I've grown accustomed to all its quirks, and the adjustments I had to make have all become second nature to me. I'm very grateful for all it has taught me... but don't get me wrong...
