Hello, Morgan County Middle School!

My name is Tim Gruber, and I am writing this message from Sabah, Malaysia. I am excited to meet you and take you on this journey with me.

Before we start exploring Malaysia, I wanted to share a bit about myself. I call Richmond, Virginia home. I taught elementary school for two years there before coming to Malaysia. In middle school my two favorite subjects were history and English. Aside from teaching, I love running, biking, reading and hiking. In fact, the last three summers, I led hiking and biking trips for middle and high school students.

While I loved teaching in Richmond, I wanted an adventure somewhere new. That desire brought me here to Sabah, Malaysia. If you find Malaysia on a map, you will notice that it is broken into two parts: peninsular Malaysia and Borneo Malaysia. Within these two regions, Malaysia has fourteen states: twelve in peninsular Malaysia and two in Borneo Malaysia. I am located in Borneo, Malaysia in the state of Sabah, in the tiny town of Tenom. Tenom has about 5,000 people, but there is no shortage of warmth or hospitality here. Fun fact: Tenom is known throughout Sabah for its coffee!
