The weather is highly variable in this region, and even though our journey is happening during the warmest months of the year, temperatures are usually below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The weather change so much, we even had four different seasons in a day! This week was cloudy, chilly and breezy, but sometimes sunny and warm! We even got some heavy snow for an hour on a sunny day. One has to be prepared for all types of weather and carry multiple layers in case it’s either too warm or too cold!
This week I saw beluga whales, arctic foxes, bowhead whales in the distance and different types of birds, including white tundra swans with black peaks (whistlings), white snow owls, seagulls, loons and eiders. I also saw some polar bear footprints, but unfortunately no bears this week!
