Chao for Now Bogotá: Hasta Dos Meses!

Since I will have three totally different classes next semester, I won't see them as much. But, the good news is, we could always get together for coffee or a bite to eat. There are lots of good, affordable restaurants at la Universidad Nacional (UNAL), and I bet they can show me the best ones. In addition, there are plenty of outdoor places around campus to just sit and catch up. You just have to cross your fingers that it doesn't start pouring rain or hail!

There has been an immense amount of rain this month. As I may have mentioned in a different post, November is the rainiest month in Bogotá, so you have to arrive prepared for thunderstorms at any minute. This past week, it started pouring rain, then hail, plus thunder and lightning during one of the final exams. I couldn't believe it! As if the students weren't under enough stress, now they had to worry about how to get home and stay warm and dry. Most of the bike paths were puddled, so I had a really hard time biking home. Though I must say, the fog rising over the hail was beautiful to see around campus.

The holiday decorations around Bogotá have been stunning, and that means a lot coming from a New Yorker. In NYC, the decorations at Rockefellar Center, Times Square and Sunset Park draw your attention with tons of sparkling lights. Similarly, in Bogotá, every where you look there is a Christmas tree or holiday lights! In my neighborhood, Barrio Pablo Sexto, there are now trees in just about every apartment window. At Gran Estacion, the large mall that I go to regularly for phone and bank support, the holidays ornaments can be blinding! Huge trees, big green reefs, and multi-colored lights that cover the ceilings practically block your path. Even the supermarkets have holiday decorations!
