Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Aaron Gomez and I am 29 years old. I was born and raised in the great state of Texas, where I have been surrounded by various cultures and forms of art. Growing up in a large city like San Antonio, I had access to museums, cultural centers, concert halls, diverse food, and beautiful nature parks. I, however, spent most of my time in the concert halls.

I knew at a young age that I would choose a life of music. I began studying and performing music at nine years old. Ever since then, my life has been filled with music from various time periods and cultures from all over the world. I started my musical life with the cello and later learned to play the piano. I received my Bachelor's degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio in music composition. I then left Texas for Illinois State University, where I received a double Master's degree in music composition and orchestral conducting.

During my time in Illinois, I explored my growing interest in traditional Chinese music. I wrote several academic essays on the subject and guest lectured for world music classes. I also experimented with different Chinese instruments. Before graduating, I applied to the Fulbright Scholar Program where I was awarded a research grant to come to Taiwan and study traditional Chinese music in depth.

My time in Taiwan so far has been full of adventure and very eye-opening. I am excited to share this journey with you!
