The Tasty Tradition of Asado in Chile

Introduction:

The Chilean diet includes a variety of delicious foods like fresh seafood, different kinds of meat, legumes like lentils and garbanzos and some of the best homemade bread I've ever eaten. But Asado is more than just a meal—it’s an experience! Families and friends gather around a fire to cook, talk and enjoy each other’s company. It’s not just about eating, it’s about spending time together and celebrating special moments.

What food did I try?:

I tried Asado, which literally means "roasted" in English. It is the Chilean version of a barbecue, where meat is cooked slowly over hot coals or a wood fire. The most common meats used are beef, pork and lamb, but sometimes chicken or sausages are grilled too. People also cook vegetables like peppers, onions and potatoes on the grill. The food is often served with fresh bread, salads and a special sauce called pebre, which is made of tomatoes, onions, cilantro and spices.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

As soon as the Asado started cooking, I could smell the rich, smoky aroma filling the air. It made me even more excited to try it! When I took my first bite, the meat was tender and juicy, and had a deep, smoky flavor from the fire. The vegetables were slightly charred, which gave them a delicious, roasted taste.
