¡Hola! My name is Abby, and I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I left Minnesota in 2017 to study at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where I double majored in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (using numbers to answer questions about the world) and Anthropology (using people's stories to answer questions about the world).
At Notre Dame, I researched drought in Africa, which happens when there is not enough rain to allow for plants to grow, and eventually they die. I learned about the drought using satellite imagery data (pictures of the earth taken from space!).
In my third year of college, in 2020, I had the opportunity to briefly study abroad in Santiago, Chile, and my life has never been the same. Chile is a very skinny, but very long country on the west coast of South America. In fact, it is long enough to stretch all the way across the U.S. if you turn it on its side!
Chile is known for having amazing nature, with tons of variety. From hiking up volcanos, surfing at the beach, exploring the dry desert in the north, and the snowy mountains in the south, the opportunities are endless for adventure and outdoors lovers like myself!
