Hi! My name is Abby, and I'm from Louisville, Kentucky. When I was a high school student in Louisville, I went to a performing arts school where I played the flute. There, I realized that I wanted to be involved in music for a long time. However, I didn't want to keep playing the flute in college, and I definitely didn't want to be part of a professional orchestra, so I decided to go to college to learn about the music industry. I spent four years at New York University as a music business major, where I learned about managing artists, how songwriters can make money from the music that they write, and the best methods to set up a concert, among many, many other things.
Since high school, one of my favorite genres of music has been Korean pop music, or K-pop. When I was a music business major, I spent one semester abroad in Seoul, South Korea. I enjoyed my experience there so much that I wanted to go back, so I applied for a Fulbright Scholarship. The Fulbright Scholarship is administered by the U.S. Department of State, and it allows Americans to go all over the world to teach English and do research. I applied to do research about K-pop in Seoul, and after receiving the award, I moved there in August of this year. I want to write a guide that will help American music companies understand how the music industry works in South Korea, so that everyone can work together more easily. Thanks for joining me on this journey!
