Our News

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Since Cajamarca is known for its diary, my friends and I visited a cheese factory while we were in the city. I tried over 40 different types of cheeses, but my favorite was mantecoso, a cheese with a very creamy texture.

What did I read this week?:

I read for a couple of minutes (in English) every night because it helps me relax before I fall asleep. I love to read all types of books. My favorites, however, are the ones that involve mythical creatures, mystery and adventure. I am currently reading "The Song of Achilles" by Madeline Miller, a thrilling retelling of the legend of Achilles and the Trojan War.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I did not play a lot of games or sports this week, but I did watched Peru play Paraguay in soccer on Wednesday night. It was a widely-televised game against friendly rivals that ended in a tie.

Other news from this week:

I began analyzing our fish samples for microplastics! We collected these samples from markets around Iquitos, and in order to extract the ingested microplastics, I first removed the stomach of each fish by cutting a longitudinal incision in the abdominal region. I then examined the retained material and stomach contents under a stereomicroscope for microplastic picking. I found 13 different particles (of all different sizes, shapes, and colors) in just one fish!
