Traveler Bio

Dobrý den (Hello)! My name is Abby Burke. I am a sophomore at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and I am spending the year abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. I feel excited, nervous and very fortunate to spend the year in this incredible country. As an international relations major, I am eager to learn about Prague's rich cultural history. My first semester was filled with lots of growth as I learned to live independently in a new city. Prague's population is 1.3 million--which is enormous compared to my hometown (Anchorage, Alaska) with its population of 288,000.

I originally hail from Anchorage, Alaska. Anchorage has a population of about 288,000 people, so Prague's 1.3 million people is quite different for me. Growing up in Alaska has given me an appreciation for all things outdoors. I am an avid rock climber and hiker. I also love to go camping. I've been rock climbing for almost 13 years and I am an active member of the climbing team at Lewis and Clark. This summer I started knitting, which has soon become one of my favorite activities. Feel free to ask me about these hobbies as well!

In Prague, I love to walk around the city, find new kavárnas (coffee shops) and eat yummy pastries. I cannot wait to see what this year holds and to get to know all of you! Ciao (Goodbye)!
