That is, whenever I was gracious to my waiter or to the store clerk, they responded with a bright smile. In London, on the other hand, people are more independent. They are polite, but they do not expect to be thanked. I am so incredibly grateful that I have been able to visit so many places in such a short amount of time.
As a result of all these adventures, I feel very bittersweet to be leaving. This is because Madrid has become my home. Spain has delicious food that I will miss, especially the ice cream! Madrileños have also been amazing. Each person is so different, yet they all share a passion for their country. I have also met so many new people, including some who I know will be in my life forever. I have learned how to love the metro system and how amazing it is. I have enjoyed all my classes, some of which are not offered at Xavier. At the same time, I feel ready to be back home. I am so excited to see my parents, my sisters and my friends. I cannot wait to drive my car to the local library and watch Christmas movies with my family. That is why I feel bittersweet: bitter to leave Madrid, sweet to be back home.
As I am reflecting on this adventure, I know I want to travel again like this in the future. Maybe I can study abroad during graduate school or find a temporary job abroad. There are so many opportunities that I need to research! I know that studying abroad has made me a better person. It has taught how to be patient with others. This is something that will be very useful in my career. This adventure has also inspired me to look for more opportunities outside the United States!
Overall, I am extremely grateful for this experience.
