Nature News

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

The Infona Center of Forestry was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week. There were 1,000 kinds of trees, all different types of native and exotic trees. Most of Paraguay has been deforested in the last 50 years, so it was cool to see a place that is actually increasing the amount of trees they have.

Other Nature News from this week:

Carmen de Paraná, located about 30 miles from me, is a touristy community right on the Paraná river. It has lots of beaches and was a really beautiful place to visit. I learned that in the 1980's, the town used to be much bigger, but the opening of a dam along the Paraná river actually flooded the town and displaced many of its residents. Another Peace Corps volunteer who has already completed his two years of service will be extending his time for another year to make a documentary about the floods and their effects on the local population.
