I had a basketball camp with kids last Tuesday, which was my first camp, and it went well! I taught them how to dribble and shoot layups, pass, and I also taught them the most important rules. I played volleyball this week at the church, where people often gather to play sports after mass. The basketball court is also at the church, as well as the court for futsal. With my English camp this week, I played soccer during one of the breaks with my campers. .
I have a friend from Asuncion whose grandma lives in my community. I met him for the first time during Christmas, and he came again last weekend to visit. He is fluent in English, and he likes playing basketball and chess, which are two things I also really enjoy. We spent five or six hours last Saturday playing chess with my other friend, Jossema, and I had dinner with him, his parents and grandma. His parents are not fluent in English, but they can speak and understand a lot of English. We played basketball yesterday, and during the first few minutes of a one on one game, I made a move and twisted my ankle over his foot. I kept playing, thinking it was only a minor injury, but after the adrenaline of playing wore off, my ankle got stiff, swollen and painful, and I couldn't put my full weight on it. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle which is going to be a difficult process to deal with in another country, using a different language.
