Using English in Paraguay

Introduction:

Here in Paraguay, my community has a need for more English learning spaces.  I'm working to help my students learn English so that we can then then work more effectively on environmental initiatives later.

What community need did I learn about?:

I am fairly new in this community, and new at my job, so I am not yet completely aware of all of the community needs. My sector is environmental conservation, which means that I plan to help the community with environmental needs such as managing waste, planting trees, and teaching environmental education. However, many of these things are new for me as well, and my lack of authority on the subjects makes it difficult to show up in a community and start instructing right away. A need that I identified very quickly is a need for English teaching, as many people in my community, both kids and adults, would like to learn English. The past volunteer in my community taught lots of English, and many people have asked me if I plan to continue in his path. I quickly realized that this would be a good way to integrate and make friends in the community, as I have much more authority in teaching English, and people are more excited about learning English than cleaning up trash.
