Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

In an average week, I travel about 70km or 43 miles, mostly to get to and from work.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

During my time in Peru since the beginning of 2025, I have traveled hundreds of miles within my region of Ancash and to other parts of Peru. It would be hard to estimate the total distance!

How did I get around this week?:

I get around either by walking (often in the rain now) or on a combi, which is a 10-14 passenger van that operates like a bus. There's one that takes me from the corner by my house all the way to my job, which is very convenient, but in general they're a little hard to use because you have to know the routes they take. They use a hop-on, hop-off system and each ride is S/2, or $.57.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

On Sunday, I went to visit the Ancash Regional Museum, which is free every first Sunday of the month. They have very cool artifacts spanning thousands of years of human occupation of this area, plus a beautiful garden in the back with native flowers and cacti. The garden also includes decorative carved stones from the Recuay and Chavin cultures, which depict animals and warriors.
