Hallo! My name is Alec Rovensky, I’m a 26-year-old architecture student at the Technical University of Berlin in Germany. I first learned about Berlin's historic significance in Ms. Trongard's 10th grade AP World History class, where we talked about the impact of World War II, the Cold War, and the fall of the wall on the city. When I was studying at the Syracuse University School of Architecture we had an opportunity to visit Berlin with our class. I found Berlin to be unlike any other city I've visited before and full of unique architectural design.

Five years later, with the support of a Fulbright Research Grant, I recently began my Masters in Architectural Typology where I am investigating urban restructuring efforts in the reuse of aging or abandoned buildings to address the housing crisis, with a particular focus on providing housing for migrants and refugees. Coming to Berlin from New York, I am excited to learn about the similarities and differences in the customs, built environment, and people between these two places. I enjoy exploring cities by riding my bike and photographing what I see. I will be using my bike and camera to document my discoveries and report back to you. Tschüss (Bye)!
