Mr. Ali in Bukittinggi!

Teachers (guru-guru) are very respected, and as such we often wear formal clothing. The colors we wear range from brown to white to traditional color batiks. But I usually like wearing sports clothes. Sometimes after school I change to work on my farm. That's when the sports clothes or simple clothing helps keep me cool. I love wearing the batik on the weekend or during Zuhur (prayer time) on Friday."

What do you like to do in your free time?:

"In my free time, I enjoy farming. I keep my farm so that I can keep as young as my students. Hard work makes me feel like I spent my time fully, and the rice that I grow shows this.

I also enjoy making knives and other items. I usually make wood carving artwork in my free time. Whenever possible, I go to Solok (a town in West Sumatra) to spend time with my mother, brother, and the rest of my family. Solok is a small town in the Agam regency."

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

"I can speak English, Bahasa English, and Bahasa Mingang. I learned English from school, and I have been learning and listening since Junior High School. I continued studying English while in college."

Do you have pets?:

"I don't have any pets, but I love watching the birds that usually sit and rest in a tree nearby my kitchen window."

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

"I seldom travel, but I usually go to Padang if I am with friends or if there is a special plan. For weddings, it's very common to travel to nearby villages where many people in the city grew up."
